Home Sauna FAQs

How much does a home sauna cost?

Home saunas range from a few hundred dollars for a portable steam sauna to several thousand for a cabin. At Xhale Recovery, portable steam saunas start at $197, infrared saunas run from about $2,000 to $8,800, and traditional outdoor saunas start at around $6,300. Every sauna ships free across the US.

Which is better, an infrared or a traditional sauna?

Neither is better; they feel different. An infrared sauna warms your body directly with infrared panels at lower air temperatures (around 120–150°F), heats up quickly and usually costs less to run. A traditional sauna heats the air with an electric stove to higher temperatures (up to around 194°F), and you can pour water on the stones for steam. Choose infrared for gentle heat and easy installation, or traditional for the classic hot Finnish sauna feel.

Do I need special wiring for a home sauna?

Many 1 and 2 person infrared saunas plug into a standard 120V household outlet. Larger infrared saunas may need a dedicated 20A circuit, and traditional saunas with 6kW or 9kW heaters need a 240V hardwired connection installed by a licensed electrician. The power requirements are listed on every product page.

Can an infrared sauna be used outside?

Only if it is built for outdoor use. Indoor saunas are not weatherproof. Our outdoor saunas have weather roofs and outdoor-rated construction, and some models are rated for year-round use in temperatures from -5°F to 120°F.

Do I need a permit for an outdoor sauna?

It depends on where you live. Some US cities and HOAs require a permit for outdoor structures or new electrical work, especially for 240V traditional saunas. Check with your local building department or HOA before you install.

How long does an outdoor sauna last?

A well-built outdoor sauna in fir, spruce or Canadian hemlock can last many years with basic care. Keep it on a level, well-drained base, let it air out after each session and check the roof and seals each season.

Do portable steam saunas actually work?

Yes. A portable steam sauna uses a small electric steamer to fill an insulated tent with hot, humid air, so you sweat much like in a steam room. They do not reach the temperatures of a cabin sauna, but they set up in minutes, fold away after and cost far less.

Should you shower after a sauna?

Most people rinse off with a lukewarm or cool shower after a sauna to wash away sweat and cool down. Drink water before and after your session to stay hydrated.

Cold Plunge FAQs

Are cold plunge tubs worth it?

If you want regular cold exposure at home, a cold plunge tub is far more convenient than filling a bathtub with ice. Many athletes and active people use cold plunges as part of their recovery routine. Our cold plunge tubs start at $77, so it is an easy way to start.

What is the ideal temperature for a cold plunge?

Many people plunge at around 50–59°F (10–15°C) for 2–5 minutes. Beginners often start warmer and shorter, then build up over time. Always listen to your body, and check with your doctor first if you have a heart condition or other health concerns.

How much does a cold plunge tub cost?

Cold plunge tubs range from under $100 for portable ice bath tubs to several thousand dollars for tubs with built-in chillers. At Xhale Recovery, insulated portable and inflatable cold plunge tubs cost $77 to $350, with free US shipping.

How does a cold plunge tub work?

You fill the tub with cold water and add ice to bring the temperature down. The insulated walls and lid help keep the water cold for longer. Some tubs, like our 216 gallon inflatable cold plunge, are chiller compatible, so you can connect a water chiller and skip the ice.

What should you not do after a cold plunge?

Avoid jumping straight into a very hot shower, staying in longer than you are comfortable with, or plunging alone when you are new to it. Warm up gradually with a towel, warm clothes and light movement.

Red Light Therapy FAQs

Does a red light therapy mask really work?

Red light therapy masks use LEDs to deliver red and near infrared light to the skin. Research on red light for skin appearance is promising, and most brands recommend consistent use for 4–8 weeks before judging results. Results vary from person to person. Browse our red light therapy masks.

How do I use a red light therapy panel?

Stand or sit in front of the panel at the distance in your user manual, usually 6–24 inches, and use it for around 10–20 minutes, several times a week. Start with shorter sessions, keep your skin clean, and use the built-in timer.

What should I look for when buying a red light therapy panel?

Look at the wavelengths (660nm red and 850nm near infrared are the most common), the number and power of the LEDs, the size of the treatment area, and features like a stand, timer and modes. Our red light therapy panels range from a compact 80W panel to a 300 LED full body panel.

Is a red light therapy mask or panel better?

A mask is best for your face and neck, and it is hands-free and portable. A panel covers a much larger area, so you can use it on your face, back, legs or full body. Many people start with a mask for skincare and add a panel for body recovery.

What are the downsides of red light therapy?

Red light therapy is generally well tolerated, but the light can be bright, so use the included eye protection. If you take medication that makes you sensitive to light, are pregnant or have a medical condition, check with your doctor before starting.
